How Your Loved One Died of COVID

A Frontline Nurse’s Confession, the Truth Behind Hospital Doors, and a Path to Healing

During the pandemic, countless families said goodbye through a screen — or not at all. Visitor restrictions meant the people who loved patients most were kept away at the very end, left with unanswered questions about what those final days were really like.

Samuel Cheraisi was one of the nurses inside. In this book he gently and honestly walks readers through what happened at the bedside: the care that was given, the decisions that were made, and the human moments that families never got to see.

  • Clear, plain-language explanations of what patients experienced
  • The truth that your loved one was not alone
  • A companion for grief, closure, and understanding

About the Author

A nurse first. A storyteller because of it.

Samuel Cheraisi is a Registered Nurse whose writing grows directly out of his work at the bedside. He has cared for patients through some of the most demanding seasons in modern healthcare, including the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Those experiences left him with stories he felt families and fellow caregivers needed to hear — told with clinical honesty and deep compassion. His books aim to bring comfort to the grieving, encouragement to nurses, and perspective to every reader.

When he isn’t working a shift or writing, Samuel speaks with communities, schools, and healthcare organizations about grief, resilience, and the human side of medicine.

Lessons from the Bedside

A few of the truths that run through Samuel’s writing.

I.

Presence is care

Sometimes the most important thing a nurse does is simply stay — a hand to hold, a voice that says “I’m here.”

II.

Families deserve the truth

Honest answers, told gently, help people grieve and heal far better than silence ever can.

III.

Every shift ends

Hard hours pass. What remains is how we treated one another while they lasted.
